From Zero to Anyone

Building a Decentralized VPN

The Challenge

Anyone Protocol came to Memetic Block with a vision and a token.

The Anyone Protocol team had a clear mission: build a decentralized privacy network that could rival traditional VPNs while eliminating the trust problem. They understood that centralized VPN providers represent single points of failure.

Their solution was elegant in concept: create an incentivized network of relay operators using onion routing, where no single participant could see the full picture of any user's traffic. Operators would earn tokens for providing bandwidth, creating a self-sustaining privacy infrastructure.

But concept and execution are very different things.

When Anyone Protocol approached Memetic Block, they had an ERC-20 token and a community of believers. They didn't yet have protocol code, network infrastructure, operator tools, smart contracts, backend services, an automated deployment pipeline, and zero relays.

They needed more than contractors to write code. They needed a technical partner who could architect, build, deploy, and operate an entire decentralized network.

Our Solution

Memetic Block became Anyone Protocol's core engineering arm. Over three years, we built the complete technical stack required to take the project from token to production network.

Protocol Architecture

We designed and implemented a multi-chain smart contract system spanning both EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) and Arweave's AO (Actor Oriented) compute layer.

On the EVM side, we built Solidity contracts including the Facilitator, which bridges token claims between chains by dispatching events and integrating with Arweave for allocation tracking, and the Hodler, which handles comprehensive token management including locking, staking, governance voting, rewards distribution, and time-locked vaults.

On Arweave's AO compute layer, we implemented Lua smart-contracts for relay operator and relay family registration, rewards calculation and distribution, and cross-chain state synchronization.

This dual-chain architecture gives Anyone Protocol the best of both worlds: Ethereum's liquidity and ecosystem for token operations, and Arweave's permanent data & decentralized compute for metrics-heavy & trustless protocol logic.

Backend Services

A decentralized network still needs coordination. We built a scalable, multi-chain microservices ecosystem to handle the operational complexity.

The Operator Registry Controller links relay operator identities, validates device certificates, and serves as a network metrics oracle for AO processes. The Relay Rewards & Staking Rewards Controllers manage distribution flow for operator & staking rewards with regular snapshots published to Arweave. The Facilitator bridges multi-chain token events, ensuring cross-chain state consistency with rewards and staking claims. Finally, a developer-friendly API Service provides relay search, anonymized geolocation data using H3 hex cells, hardware relay information, and Unstoppable Domains integration serving the .anyone  hidden-service TLD.

Each service is designed to be independently deployable, horizontally scalable, and fault-tolerant.

Relay Operator Dashboard

Relay operators needed a way to register, monitor, and manage their nodes. We built a production-grade, decentralized dashboard application using modern JavaScript frameworks with decentralized data sources and state management.

Features include relay registration, staking interface, earnings tracking, network statistics, and connectivity management. The dashboard abstracts away the complexity of multi-chain operations, letting operators focus on running their relays rather than wrestling with blockchain interactions.

Infrastructure & Operations

Code is only half the battle. We operate Anyone Protocol's infrastructure on a dedicated, bare-metal private cloud.

This includes automated CI/CD deployment pipelines for all services and contracts, comprehensive monitoring and observability across the microservices stack, on-call incident response for network-critical issues, coordinated upgrade rollouts across multi-chain contract systems, and ongoing security reviews with bill-of-materials dependency management.

This isn't a handoff engagement. We're in the trenches with Anyone Protocol shipping updates and responding to issues as they arise.

Results

From zero infrastructure to one of the largest DePIN networks by node count.

The numbers speak for themselves. The network now has over 22,000 registered relays, with more than 7,600 actively serving traffic and pushing 69+ Gbps of bandwidth and over 8,000,000 $ANYONE tokens locked.

Key Milestones

In December 2025, Anyone Protocol went live with a production mainnet. The relay network grew from zero infrastructure to one of the largest DePIN networks by node count. Developers began building privacy features into their applications using Anyone's SDK. Three years in, the partnership continues with Memetic Block engineers still shipping code daily.

The Partnership Model

Anyone Protocol didn't need an agency to throw code over the wall. They needed a technical co-founder who could commit for the long haul.
